In Response To: Cortana speaks! (I think?) (Mitch) The thing that jumped out at me was the random sprinkling of question marks. Reminiscent of the "unfinished" message of the last terminal on Hang Brain. Made me wonder just what (who?) was on that chip Durandal gave us. Tycho said he suspected we were carrying Durandal's primal pattern, and it's accepted that the chip was used to connect Durnadal to Thoth. There's still the M1 connection: Transfer interrupted!, and warnings about bad network behavior. References to "escape", "security compromised", "be aware that communications are failing everywhere" all point to a rampant AI. What about the orbital bombardment? The writer is referring in a derogatory fashion to other entities or a group which enjoys orbital bombardment: Durandal's initial tactic against the Pfhor garrison on Lhowon. Therefore Cortana is not a friend of Durandal, although s/he was aware of events around Lhowon. Also for the record relay.arecibo.nasa.gov doesn't exist, so we can assume it's a clue to the content of the message instead of actual routing information. The arecibo message... An early attempt by humanity to contact alien races. A parallel to Durandal's summonging of the Pfhor in the Lhowon system. |
