Climate?
Posted By: Loren Petrich <petrich@netcom.com>Date: 10/21/99 2:37 a.m.

The Earth gets its different climates because the equatorial regions get much more sunlight per unit area than the polar regions.

That cannot happen for Halo, since because of its rotation, all parts of it will get the same kind of illumination from Soell. However, Halo could have seasons if its orbit plane around Jonesworld is significantly inclined to Jonesworld's orbit plane around Soell -- which is what happens with the Earth. The best illumination is when Soell is in Halo's ring plane, while the worst is when Soell is near Halo's spin axis. Halo's precession will complicate the analysis of Halo's seasons, but I expect it to have a period of a few (Earth) days, meaning that it can be averaged over.
