Bungie called it Armor originally, but they have a tendancy of letting their code names become actual product names (Marathon, Myth, Blood Tides of Lh'owon, etc), so they decided to rename Armor something ridiculous that they would never release under, hence "Blam". That forced them to come up with something better.
