Two things I noticed is about some of the solutions we looked at last night were that in addition to being symmetrical, they used all four basic operations (#, /, +, -) and left two prime numbers.
Dial 2:
((67+13) * 70) / (25 * (48-30))
leaves 3 and 11
Dial 3:
((20-6) + (14-13)) * (33/22)
leaves 0 and 71
I'd place more importance in the use of all four operations than in leaving only primes. If having leftover primes was the answer, we could easily guess at the rest of the dials right now. Besides, dial 6 doesn't have any primes. So it's possible that both used/unused symmetry and the use of all four operations are needed for a match. At this point, however, I think the patter is becoming a bit thin.
