Here's an interesting thing about the fusion gun's ammo:
In the manual, the fusion batteries are referred to as "Deuterioxide Halogen Battery Packs"

Apparently irl laser induced fusion experiments use deuterium(hydrogen2)+fluorine(a halogen) reaction lasers to bring hydrogen to appropriate temperatures for fusion.

The batteries probably contain the reaction components (H and F) and the fusion substance (more H) in a safe and stable container.
