: One issue has arisen which I can't understand. Both AIFFs are the about the
: same size (13.4 vs 13.5 MBs) and the bit rate is identical (1411 kbps).
: However when I convert these to ALAC in iTunes the following happens:
: Flippant QT2.0 ALAC is 7.8 MBs and the bit rate is 802 kbps.
: Flippant QT2.5 ALAC is 4.9MBs and the bit rate is 510 kbps.
: Given the nature of the music I think 510 kbps is more accurate.
: Could Audacity be adding the extra, probably unnecessary, kbps?
If the AIFFs are the same size, it's not Audacity's fault. Maybe there is a little extra noise in the analog QT 2 recordings, which is harder to compress losslessly? The samples themselves sound noisier, as well, which could also contribute.
