*SPOILERS* Halo 3 Legendary Ending

I finished the game and watched the regular ending after the credits, but I saw the Legendary ending on youtube (don't worry, I will do it myself soon) :). Anyway, people are claiming that the Legendary ending relates to Marathon, but I don't see it at all. Am I missing somethng?
