Couple of reasons.
1) Spam's not the problem there that it is here. (I don't know why that would be, actually; you'd think that spammers would find more popular boards faster than less popular ones. Doesn't work that way, apparently; OrbitalArm was overrun with spam a couple of years ago.) There are spam posts there (a few each day, actually) - but they're usually deleted within minutes by admins.
2) There are many, many, MANY more posters there than here. Requiring profiles there would affect a far greater number of people - many of which are casual visitors. (I don't think there are many casual visitors here any more; anyone who participates has enough of an interest in Marathon that creating a profile shouldn't be too much of an inconvenience... especially since creating a profile requires nothing more than filling in the password field.)
