: I suppose just making random statements without rational is just silly :)
I was the one who advised Forrest on marathon-devel
: On http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-faq.html , the question, "Can I put
: the binaries on my Internet server and put the source on a different
: Internet site?" is answered, "make arrangements with another
: site to keep the necessary source code available, and put a link or
: cross-reference to the source code next to the binaries, we think that
: qualifies as 'from the same place'."
: Really, this basically requires emailing the CVS maintainer or Sourceforge
: admin and establishing that they do indeed plan on being around awhile.
: Actually, in a lot of cases this is more or less assumed without asking.
: If they should happen to disappear while you are still serving the binary,
: then it would be your responsibility to provide a link to elsewhere under
: a similar arrangement.
Firstly, CVS is out. People who can get your scneario via HTTP may not have CVS.
Second, it's impossible to make that kind of arrangement with sourceforge. There are at least 8 of us who can mess with that source at any time, and an unknown number of sourceforge admins. Not to mention sourceforge's security model is a joke.
Now, both Christian and I host the source on our websites, too, and some kind of arrangement could be made with one of us I suppose. But that still wouldn't solve the problem of Fileball not letting you link to the source.
