: Moving software to a new platform is seldom glitch-free and I can certainly
: understand D-M.A.'s frustrations. That said, apps written for Cocoa
: already can run on x86 hardware with only minor tweaks and Apple has been
: hinting for a while, after all, that Cocoa is the future. Carbon was
: introduced only as a transitional scheme - a bridge to help developers
: make the transition while they rewrote code for Cocoa - something that
: basically hasn't happened. I suspect that now it will.

I suspect there will be a lot of Developers who can't take it anymore. I haven't quite reached D-M.A.'s level of frustration, but I'm close.

"A simple recompile" is Steve speak for "3rd party developers can once again start over from ground zero, but it's only the third time this decade, so that's pretty sweet, huh?" Every time he does that about 1/4 of us give up.

I just spent all weekend at the office working on fixes for our totally generic cross-platform Java code which went from 200 fps on 10.3 to 7 fps on 10.4 (using the same VM) since they decided they needed to use Core Image for Java. Now they're going to seemlessly emulate the 90% of PPC software which won't be recompiled because it isn't in active development on machines with 1/2 the registers. I can hardly wait...
