That's actually not as easy as it sounds. Say you've got one dead scenario with an almost-complete map pack using the standard Infinity everything. You've got another dead scenario that got some awesome textures done but no more than a few maps. Another scenario had some awesome weapons and monsters made but not much to tie them together and no real maps. What do you have to do to put all of this togther? You've got to retexture all the maps with the new textures, refigure the story (presumably starting with the map-pack's basic plot) to allow for the new weapons and monsters, which in turn requires further changing the maps to fit the new plot, probably creating some new maps, the new plot may very well require changes to the textures as well which could necessitate further retexturing and so on and so on... and then what if it doesn't all look good together? So then you recreate the weapons or some of the monsters or redesign all the textures from scratch, and then you realize that the map quality really does blow compared to all your shiny new weapons and monsters and textures and OH MY GOD I never realized that gaping hole in the plot... this requires a total rewrite... Eternal began life as a map pack for Infinity, which then assimilated the cool bits of other, dead scenarios and tried to work them in, in addition to it's own new stuff, and basically did everything that I just went through in the paragraph above. Building a game from scrap is quite possibly more work than building a game from scratch. |
