: light-years away from each other and probably would never have met.
M1 takes place at Tau Ceti. That's close enough to Earth that the UNSC would have explored it, and it would have been glassed by the Covenant.
Halo's technology level doesn't place it after Marathon. The humans on Marathon have teleportation, plasma pistols, and energy shields.
Also, Halo takes place in 2552, while Marathon takes place in 2794.
