Fun fact about Simulacrums
Posted By: Lion O CyborgDate: 6/6/23 10:55 a.m.

I've been reading William Shatner's Tekwar novels (ghostwritten by Ron Goulart) I got for Christmas 2021 and I found out something interesting: plot points in at least the second book, Teklords (possibly the first too?) are android copies of humans being used to try and assassinate the protagonist Jake Cardigan at various points by getting close up to him and exploding. Jake even realises straight away that one of his old friends he meets as an anonymous contact is such an android as he knows the real friend has been dead for some time.

The first book came out in 1989 and the second in 1991. I don't know if anyone at Bungie read the books and was inspired to include such enemies in Marathon but if so that's an interesting coincidence.

Most people these days know about Tekwar because of a crappy Build engine game adaption of the TV show in 1995. Epilepsy warning for 21:25.

In another video of this game, you can see the Tekwar version of simulacrums at 16:50.
