: Not really sure what you mean by this. The map text is "canon"
: because it was put into the map by a developer (Greg Kirkpatrick). Of
: course Marathon fans could not have seen this until they developed the
: technology to read Marathon maps. I like to think of it as a nod to 2001:
: A Space Odyssey. Until mankind developed space travel they could not find
: the Monolith on the moon.

That is a fair point. But given that it appears GK has said that there was a sense of trying to be mysterious and vague I wasn't sure if this was an easter egg or something that had actually been thought of while writing M1 (citation missing) just never explicitly stated. I think I just didn't have to the whole picture on this one. With the confirmation from GK that Durandal knew of what was found on the moon along with the prevailing theory that the text in the Never Burn Money map was referring to Jarro ruins on Tai Ceti I think it makes sense, and is not a big jump, to think that Tau Ceti was chosen but the UNSC to learn more about what was found on the moon and the bit of that info Durandal had caused him to reach out to the Phor.
