It's not like the BGN AR is the only AR on the Marathon, that would be silly. It's just the nearest one (hence, Bigger Guns *Nearby*) or the one with the least Pfhor in the way.
Also, when you run over a weapon you already have under the M1 rules, it refills your ammo for that weapon. From looking at the source (someone correct me if I'm wrong!), it looks like the code checks whether you're using an M1 or M2/∞ physics file when determining whether to allow grenade climbing and weapon refill. I sure wish we had a preferences tick for that rather than a physics file check, though...
