Personally, I think so. I feel like despite the story divergence, the basic gameplay of DiaBD does a nice job of expanding on classic Marathon gameplay. By contrast, Excalibur tries to completely break away from the standard in the interest of doing something totally unique. Does it work? Depends on who you ask – personally, I think that while it is a mixed bag, it manages to be a very interesting experiment and certainly worth a try for anyone.
