Sociopaths don't think far ahead? What kind of personalities do you think Durandal and Tycho are? ;) (okay... maybe Tycho doesn't think ahead at all)
Durandal definitely had some kind of purpose to Strauss, even if it was just an experiment so he can say he's the first guy to make controlled rampancy. I strongly believe he was an agent for MIDA; the cyborgs, and perhaps rampancy, were to be used for terrorism.
