I've also noticed some circumstances when the HUD didn't drop down properly, sometimes restoring from saves, but I don't use an old saves so it's not that. I haven't been able to discern any pattern to it (and it seems to fix itself with a little bit of play time), so I haven't asked Hopper about it yet (he coded the HUD).
