Interesting to note that when asked about family, home, or Germany, the guy responds "My family lived in Prague, Germany." Prague is not in Germany, it's in the former Czechoslovakia (modern Czech Republic, known throughout history as Bohemia). Now, note that Friedrich says it was 1938 when they came here:

was 1938 when we came to Mexico."

But here's the real killer: while the Sudetenland (Czechoslovakia's northern and western border regions) was annexed by Germany in March 1938, the rest of Czechoslovakia (including Prague) was only occupied by March 1939. That means Prague would not have been part of Germany by any measure when this unnamed soldier came to Mexico. Either he was anticipating what he thought was inevitable (and perhaps assuming we would be living in a world where Germany did control Czechoslovakia), or he was just lying.
