You're right, I can't seem to edit those, either, even if I extract the map file from the app and rename it with the .sceA extension.
It's possible that last year when I was prepping to do the series, I started off with the M1A1 scenario files. I think it was around the same time that 1.1 was in beta, and we may have only made the switch to the latest client version of Aleph One when we moved on to Marathon 2.
