Just to chime in, I always assumed, on the Marathon at least, that the 'lava' was probably some kind of liquid metal reactor coolent, probably similar in function to the Pfhor slime. That still leaves the Lh'owon lava and it's non-lavaishness (like, how is the lava thin enough to swim in??)
