I believe that's because they only have two polygons to move on. Once activated they move to the smaller of the two and stay there. As you say they stay quiet until you get too close.

Interesting how we can play the same level and get a different experience. I guess that's Marathon for ya! I'll take a look at your film and see if you are doing something I'm not.

Never seen a Trooper there myself. As you say, there are 3 Enforcer placements which are filled at random. So you can have 0 or up to 3. It's always annoying when there is 0 since you never get an Alien Weapon for the final room. But hey that's Marathon for ya!
