: After riding the platform up, if you jump off the wrong side, you are trapped
: inside. Although, it is possible to shoot the switch again and lower the
: platform. If you have enough shield left, you can then shoot it again,
: ride the platform up and escape off the correct side. I didn't test it,
: but I'd be surprised if you can shoot that switch three times on TC and
: still have enough shield left to escape.

Aye. You can end up in this situation in either of two ways. Miss the platform the first time it goes up or jump down the wrong side (I've done both). The chances of you having enough shields to get out of this predicament is almost zero. Granted you can die trying but once you know you're trapped and self rescue is futile rather than take your own life by shooting yourself you simply walk out onto the lava. ;)

: On the other hand, if you jump off the wrong side and have no Fusion
: batteries left, then you *are* trapped. If I recall, you cannot activate
: that switch with a grenade.

Yes, only the Fusion Pistol will work. The angle for the AR is all wrong. Even though you get an AR on this level Vidbois can't get to the secret area without Tim Seufert's Marathon Vidmaster Challenge Physics Model.

: Not sure this qualifies as a suicide trap. But if you run out of grenades and
: fusion batteries before activating one of the two switches that open the
: doors leading to the final room, then you are trapped on the level. Of
: course, this would also apply to any level where a high switch has to be
: activated in order to complete the level. (e.g. Colony Ship...)

Aye. This point was raised by Bob-B-Q some time ago

It does stretch the definition of a suicide trap. Perhaps we need some categorisation?
