You're spot on. That first trap room can become a suicide trap. You don't even have to take the teleporter back to the start to get caught out. If you quickly step into the room and then back out you will cause the floors to rise up. If you wait until they are up and then step back in they will go down. If you happen to be standing on one of them or fall off the ledge your are stuck down a hole... how droll.

: And yes, I figured this out entirely in Weland. ;)
