Ouch. I hate it when logistics and red tape simply make good ideas impractical. :(

It might be concievable for willing map authors to facilitate legal processes, but I think the IP issues would sour the issue. Making the best maps perfectly Marathon 2 compatible might be more work that it's worth, especially if Freeverse still has to take that work, tighten it up for Live and go through the closed certification process, and as a byproduct of that obtain rights to the maps. It doesn't sound like it would be simple for any of the parties involved.

I remain vaguely optimistic, but that's a personal outlook rather than an objective view of the circumstances.
