Right. I am talking about the perspective of the traveler, not the time-god. Your comment about moving "sideways" is how I see branching. Unless you can travel to another branch it is not branching. If there is ever a branch that is unaccessible, it is not branching.
Graphing things from the time-god's perspective will always need some sort of "branch", sure, but I find this terminology pointless. It always has to branch, and the timelines themselves are not branching. The only thing that branches is the cause-effect chain as written on a piece of paper. The branch is literally nothing more than a measurement of the change.
My branching has nothing to do with change and has everything to do with temporal positioning in relation to the infinite number of timelines available.

What I initially thought you meant was the ability to visit other timelines and return to the original timeline. In other words, timelines can never override each other and all possible timelines exist and can be entered and exited.
