Well... if you experienced it, it happened. ("It" may not have been what you thought it was... could've been a dream of a hallucination or you could be in the Matrix... but something happened to produce that experience). So, unless you want to say that all of M2 and most of Infinity were just a dream/hallucination/etc, then they all happened, in alternate timelines.
Of course, since the player's time-travel seems to happen in the form of going back only in his own mind (i.e. rewinding to an earlier time and place that he was, rather then physically teleporting to some other point in spacetime), then to him the final experience could be something like...
[six years and eight days in the future the world comes to a sudden and unexpected end, which could have somehow been prevented with some small modifications to events that will happen later today, so future-Forrest uses Jjaro technology to rewind his mind to this very instant - ironically enough]
...Huh? Whoa, dude. What was I saying? I just had this trippy vision of like, the future, man, and the world was gonna come to an end, but I figured out how to go back in time and stop it, and then I woke up at my desk here. Jeez. Gotta stop dozing off at work. And lay off the crack before bedtime.
You get the idea? To the player, alternate futures could easily seem like just prophetic visions and dreams, and as he re-lives similar events over again, it just feels like deja vu, altogether giving him an uncanny sort of prescience - he just KNOWS that there's a Juggernaut in that next courtyard, like he's already been there before, despite never having been on this damn alien world in [t]his life. And nobody else would know any better. C.f. respawning from pattern buffers.

So, unless you want to say that all of M2 and most of : Infinity were just a dream/hallucination/etc, then they all happened, in : alternate timelines. : Of course, since the player's time-travel seems to happen in the form of : going back only in his own mind (i.e. rewinding to an earlier time and : place that he was, rather then physically teleporting to some other point : in spacetime), then to him the final experience could be something like... : [six years and eight days in the future the world comes to a sudden and : unexpected end, which could have somehow been prevented with some small : modifications to events that will happen later today, so future-Forrest : uses Jjaro technology to rewind his mind to this very instant - ironically : enough] : ...Huh? Whoa, dude. What was I saying? I just had this trippy vision of like, : the future, man, and the world was gonna come to an end, but I figured out : how to go back in time and stop it, and then I woke up at my desk here. : Jeez. Gotta stop dozing off at work. And lay off the crack before bedtime. : You get the idea? To the player, alternate futures could easily seem like : just prophetic visions and dreams, and as he re-lives similar events over : again, it just feels like deja vu, altogether giving him an uncanny sort : of prescience - he just KNOWS that there's a Juggernaut in that next : courtyard, like he's already been there before, despite never having been : on this damn alien world in [t]his life. And nobody else would know any : better. C.f. respawning from pattern buffers. : Which part of it exactly?
