I think Marathon 2 had a relatively complex plot -- even today, Marathon and Durandal pose a universe more complex than many other game series. I think, when they made Infinity, they basically said "fuck it, let's make this as complex as possible."
Anyway, I'm really grateful for the Story site. But there was no compendium for the storyline back when Infinity was released, so you basically had to puzzle it out for yourself, and it simply didn't work. I didn't even pick up on the dreams the first time because nonsense terminals and silly level design had already been implemented before then.

I also am pretty sure they're for kicks. Why would the Marine dream? Furthermore, why would the Marine take damage and die in his dreams? Did Freddy Kruger design Electric Sheep? It's ridiculous. The dreams don't work.
Rubicon did dreams alright, but there were far too many of them. It made more sense, anyway, The Marine gets put into stasis and dreams. But the Marine was put into stasis between Marathon and Durandal -- where's the dream? Why didn't the Marine dream between Ne Cede Malis and Rise Robot Rise? It's a pretty pointless addition.

Why would the Marine dream? : Furthermore, why would the Marine take damage and die in his dreams? Did : Freddy Kruger design Electric Sheep? It's ridiculous. The dreams don't : work. : Rubicon did dreams alright, but there were far too many of them. It made more : sense, anyway, The Marine gets put into stasis and dreams. But the Marine : was put into stasis between Marathon and Durandal -- where's the dream? : Why didn't the Marine dream between Ne Cede Malis and Rise Robot Rise? : It's a pretty pointless addition.
