There's also the PID A1 project, but that's unfinished too. Given Windows XP, currently the only way to play through PID's entire story is under a Macintosh emulator, namely Basilisk II. You need a ROM image; it's probably better to download one illegally somewhere, rather than buy a vintage Mac, which would then go to waste. : Are there any options if
If you've found and bought a copy, then why would you care about it not being available? Anyway, it is (though not with Bungie approval). The trilogyrelease FAQ says: "If there's a Marathon-related file that you've always wanted, but couldn't find (and it's not at the Archives or at Fileball), we'll be happy to put it up." On the other hand, I vaguely remember someone posting here about how they only got the Microsoft lawyers to release the rights to the three Marathon games; and they'd need more wrangling to get any of the older titles. (Speaking of which, do any of the new generation of old-school fans at Bungie.net know they're supposed to have a Minotaur chapter?) : Or if I got an OS X machine? Or is the only option to get
Last I heard, PID still runs under Classic, but I haven't personally tested it. Also, the last I heard about Classic was something like this: It still comes preinstalled on new Apple computers, but there's no CD for it, so you have to buy a separate copy of OS 9 if you need to reinstall it. Or, I guess, back it up somewhere when you first get the computer? |
