: Naturally, we blame the Pfhor.
: Anywhoo, I just thought this would be a fun thing to ponder: If marathon was
: a movie, and the AIs had human voices doing voice overs instead of endless
: pages of text flashing the audience, what actors would you like to see for
: Durandal and the gang?
I always used to picture Sean Connery as Durandal, oddly enough. Not the modern, thick Scottish aspirant Sean Connery that is much mocked on SNL and such, but the younger, suave, deep-voiced Connery as in the early James Bond movies. More recently I've been reading him in a bit of a Jude Law kind of voice, particularly as in his role in "A.I."
I'm not sure who did the role, but the talking holographic head in the recorded warning message at Magrathea in the new Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy seems remarkably similar to what I imagine Durandal in a movie would both look and sound like. "We appreciate your continued interest in our planet. As a token of our appreciation, please accept this complementary gift of two heat-seeking missile. Have a nice life." (or some such). The lines, the delivery, and even the floating holographic head appearance are all remarkably Durandal (though I imagine Durandal's head would be green-toned, possibly with code on it ala Cortana).
The particular line that really epitomizes Durandal to me, which always comes to mind for some reason when thinking of who to voice him, is the bit from M2 where he explains that Tycho once accused him of being too sarcastic, after which he refused to talk to Tycho for a hundred years or some such. "You don't think I'm sarcastic, do you?" As we're otherwise stranded alone on an alien planet without him...
