...why has nobody ever suggested a possible link between Bernhard Strauss and the Traxus IV rampancy?
With Strauss the science director of the Marathon, it would make sense that he had previously held a position of authority (such as on Mars...); we also know that Strauss had a hand in Durandal's "shame on Mars" (paraphrasing); we know that a rampant AI typically needs a planetary sized net to reach any kind of potential, and therefore all research into rampant AIs in the lab has resulted in failure.
Surely it isn't a leap of faith to connect these points, and suggest that Strauss had a hand in engineering the rampancy of Traxus IV, probably as an attempt at a stable rampant?
And that perhaps Durandal was created from in image of Traxus IV (rather than needing to be another one of the AIs subverted by Traxis IV (Traxus I through VI perhaps? =P )), much like RTycho is recreated in Durandal's image?
We already know Strauss isn't averse to silently manipulating events behind the backs of higher authority (the inclusion of the Mjolnirs in the Marathon's crew.)
