I apologize for replying to a thread that got deleted (I was going to reply to this before but got distracted), but I felt it would be important to give my input.
Now for me, Doom has proven itself more challenging, addicting, intellectual and quick thinking, enjoyable, etc than Marathon. I have played and beaten both Doom and Marathon, and I believe that Doom is the greater game. But at heart, I do believe that they are both equally great games. I, deep down, still believe that they are both equal, being trade-offs in each of their aspects, both good and bad. The subject here is not what is the *better* game, whether it be Doom vs. Marathon or any other comparison between games. It's what game corresponds to what type of person. I figured you were all aware of that, but I just felt the need to say that. Someone who corresponds more to Doom will simply find it funner, more challenging, intellectual etc, whereas others who correspond more to Marathon will usually find it better. True that Doom is more popular, but I don't believe that is a matter that Doom corresponds to more people than Marathon, but because it was released primarily for a more frequently used operating system (Windoze). I know how this feels because I am, in fact, a Mac user and gamer.
I am not an idiot nor a bigot nor a Doom/ID fanboy. Not at all. Yes, I will admit from many visits to both Doom forums and Marathon forums that there are a lot more of those sorts of people at Doom forums than at Marathon. In fact, because of this I don't really even visit Doom forums. But I just wanted to post this here not only because I believe that both games are equal and that there was no need to be extreme, but also because I wanted you all to go to sleep and do the things you do knowing that not all Doom players are idiot fanboys "dat post lyke dis. u no wat i meen?"
Thanks to those who read, understand and respect this.
