The local clans and custom nights have certainly done much to get this community to pick up our controllers and fight amongst ourselves. I must, however, humbly suggest: nothing is as awesome as Team HBO vs. The World. What is Team HBO? I am. You are. All of us. It was said that this ring will make us brothers. I say that this website will make us Team HBO. What is The World? Anything and everything that matchmaking can throw up at us. What is Team HBO vs. The World? I'll tell you: ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: Game 1: Neutral Bomb Assault on Hemorrhage - AFK.O. It's been a little tough for me to find time for Halo, so getting my ducks in a row for the occasion meant I was AFK for the first 2 minutes of this game. When I actually picked up the controller to play, I found a ghost sitting suggestively before me. "Paint me," it said. "Paint me like one of your French ghosts."
I couldn't turn down an offer like that. Boosting across the map, I found Team HBO in the middle of Doing It Right:
Jennos armed the bomb, with The Irony and I arriving immediately after to guard the countdown.
You and me, Blue.. we're going down together.
2:55 - HBO 1, Blue 0. Our explosive delivery service was doing some grade-A logistics: Kalamari/The Irony picked up the bomb while Jennos/I got a head start on clearing out Blue base. With UnrealCh13f controlling mid-map, Avateur/Antithesis721 were free to ruin the Blue spawns.
Although Blue rallied and managed to disarm the bomb, Team HBO had a strong enough presence at their base that Jennos promptly REarmed the bomb only seconds later. 4:20 - HBO 2, Blue 0. Shortly after, Avateur and I had a front door delivery for Blue team. And we didn't need a signature. Game over, Blues.
7:37 - Team HBO wins against Team Your Item Has Not Yet Shipped, 3-0. ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: Game 2: Assault on Wayont - Avateur, Be A Hero. Team HBO rushed like a pack of fools, getting a solid assault team into Blue base. Bomb, rockets, hog, Avateur. We had everything we needed to make it happen. Apparently, Blue had everything they needed to make it NOT happen:
As I respawned along with the rest of my team, an alarming message greeted me:
1:18 - HBO 0, Blue 1 Ouch. We rallied again, leaving our bomb laying, ready, among our broken, bleeding bodies in the heart of Blue base. We used our free hands to keep pressure on, preventing our offensive run from bleeding out. With blood, sweat and tears, Team HBO was beginning to maintain a constant presence in Blue base, right when it mattered most:
5:55 - HBO 1, Blue 1 Several Blues had sacrificed themselves trying for the disarm, leaving Team HBO's All Your Base Belong To Us strike force intact. We owned their base. It was time to win this mess. Jennos and I ran the bomb while the rest of our team continued to keep the Blues out of their own base.
6:25 - HBO 2, Blue 1 On a side note, I did think Blue team was trying to compensate for something with the size of their bomb..
We were playing our music way too loud, but the Blues just couldn't shut down our party.
Jennos FTW
7:54 - Team HBO wins against Team No Base Belong To Us, 3-1. ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: Game 3: Neutral Bomb Assault on Abridged - Messy. It was a messy start, with falcons meeting rockets in an explosive romance. It quickly became a foot battle, leading up to Jennos and Kalamari scoring after several minutes of skirmish. 5:00 - HBO 1, Red 0 With a fresh falcon in hand, Avateur and I began suppressing the Red team while Jennos started on another bomb run.
6:00 - HBO 2, Red 0 With that much HBO in yo base, you know it wasn't going well for the Reds. Team HBO pushed again, delivering an easy win.
8:16 - Team HBO wins against Team Born Yesterday, 3-0. ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: Intermission! Our party of 8 jumped into another matchmaking playlist; it was HBO vs. HBO for a game of Team Snipers on Reflection and Snipers Pro on Highlands. Don't worry, Team HBO won both times. Refreshed, we took The World in Game 4: Elite Slayer on Hemorrage, 100-86. ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: Game 5: One Bomb Assault on Boneyard - Hogtacular. I was standing on top of the bomb, wondering why I could not pick it up. Then I realized: we're on defense. At least the rest of Team HBO knew what to do: the Warthog Contingency was enacted.
Perhaps we were overconfident. A single Blue broke our seemingly impenetrable defense..
And while a large part of our team was running amok in the rest of the map, the Blue team managed to score in the last 30 seconds of the round. Noo!!
Round 1 (defense) - HBO 0, Blue 1 On offense, we needed to redeem ourselves. I'll let you be the judge:
Round 2 (offense) - HBO 1, Blue 1 We were tied. This next round would be the most important--our chance to secure victory. But the Blue team had been paying attention. They tried to imitate our successful strategy from the previous round:
Round 3 (defense) - HBO 1, Blue 1 Back on offense, Team HBO overwhelmed for the win.
Round 4 (offense) - Team HBO wins against Team Failed Drivers Ed, 2-1. ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: Game 6: Capture the Flag on Hemorrhage - Let's Make Magic. Here's what you need to know about the first half of this game:
2. The enemy got into our base a lot. A LOT. They took our flag. A lot. They never actually got OUT of our base with the flag, though. 3. I played defensively with the Wraith. It was working pretty well.
2:20 - HBO 1, Blue 0 3:43 - HBO 2, Blue 0 Jennos was making short work of the Blue team, getting our first two captures easily. But Blue team was starting to get their act together. They took out my wraith, weakening our defense. Then a complex and fortunate series of events came together. I'll let you see it all from my perspective first:
There was actually a lot going on here that you couldn't pick up from the clip, so let's walk through it again: -Cortana and I rushed right side of Blue base. Cortana stayed low, making herself a target for the enemy wraith and giving Jennos and t6ram the chance to slip in the front.
-Moments later, Avateur and Emdeess rushed the enemy Wraith, dropping a grenade a second before eating a plasma mortar.
-That grenade is what finally killed the Blue wraith.
-MEANWHILE, Blue team was speeding across the map with our flag. Antithesis721 took 3 perfect sniper shots:
..which left our flag out in the open. The distraction I needed to escape through the teleporter.
Had CortanaVII not distracted the enemy wraith, Jennos and t6ram wouldn't have made it into the enemy base.
It all came together perfectly! The Blues did capture our flag, but it didn't matter. 9:10 - Team HBO wins against Team Jennos'd, 3-1. ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: Game 7: One Flag CTF on Spire - Cake. Apparently Blue team forgot there were falcons on the map, leaving them both for us in round 1, defense.
When it was our turn on offense, we put together a pretty good plan:
The remaining rounds were more of the same. 12:03 - Team HBO wins against Team What's A Falcon, 2-0. ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: Game 8: Slayer on Spire - DNF. I guess word was getting around matchmaking that Team HBO was on a winstreaktacular. Blue team must have been intimidated when they saw us roll up, as 5/8 of their players quit almost immediately. What was going to be a game of Slayer on Spire quickly became a game of Hide and Seek on Spire for the remaining 3 Blues.
15:18 - Team HBO wins against Te-, 83-0. ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: I finished up the night with two more HBO vs. HBO games: Slayer on Powerhouse and Slayer on Reflection. Once again, Team HBO managed to win both games! Incredible, I know. It was one of the best Halo nights I've had in months. I had a blast with everyone who participated and was quite sad to leave, but unfortunately the baby doesn't sleep in just because I play Halo until 2AM. In the end, Team HBO had a flawless 8-0 win streak against The World. Maybe next time, World. Until then, keep being awesome, HBO. Thanks to everyone who participated:
