Co-op Night: Prepare to Drop Recap
Posted By: KermitDate: 9/20/11 10:57 p.m.

Hyokin the brave

When does co-op night start again? I heard that a few times this year. Absence makes the heart grow fonder, I hope.

Last Wednesday we kicked off Co-op Night ODST, and it was great seeing a lobby full of all the familiar names, and some new names as well--we were at party capacity, which gave me the warm fuzzes. We celebrated the fact that CortanaVII became the first woman ever to grace co-op night with her womanly presence. Added some class to the joint.

The games were a little shorter than I had hoped they would be (and we'll adjust things going forward to try to remedy this), but it might be a good time to remind you of one co-op night cardinal rule: Trigger checkpoints only when all enemies are dead. Other than that, keep in mind that co-op night is when you should stop and smell the, uh, piles of trash. At least that was the case with this level. You can see the stats of the games we played here, here, here, and here.

Some highlights of last week:

  • The most cooperative team was Bones, KornyMunky, SonofMacPhisto, and Hyokin. Three of them came within 8000 points of their average score, and the rest of us were all over the place.

  • DMFanella had the most kills with 35, and Hyokin had the most assists with 9 (almost twice as many as anyone else).

  • Hyokin was probably the first to die in Mombassa Streets, but if it makes him feel any better, I was probably the first to die in Tayari Plaza. I forgot what an ass-kicking those brute shots could dish out.

  • After being told by Bones not to, Hyokin started the menu training and was summarily punished.

I don't want to know what happened next.

  • Loftus pointed out license plates with familiar numbers related to some recently deceased members of Noble team.
Hint: the K and J mean something

  • FinalPOSTMORTEM napped through the first third of the game.

    Zzzzz

  • I looked back and saw a huge building I had not noticed before. Loftus informed us that this was the perimeter structure around the ONI building.

    Awesome!

  • Loftus mailed a postcard.

Dear Chief, Wish you were here! Where the heck did you go anyway?

  • I mentioned Cortana graced us with her presence. Well, apparently we weren't the only ones who noticed. I think a Brute developed a crush on her and started this I'm Romeo and you're Juliet routine, and then did something I'd never seen a Brute do--he lept up to the balcony where our fair lady stood waiting.

With love's light wings did I o'erperch these walls!

Cortana would have none of it.

    Another suitor spurned.

  • Korny found a Brute's Achilles heel.

    Tough luck.

  • I personally found that jackals are a challenge in this game. Sometimes it took whole teams to kill one.

    Just die!

  • Our team pondered this set up. Loftus says the grunts were feeding on food nipples, but I say we interruped a poker game.

Who wants to make a methane run?

  • FinalPOSTMORTEM wakes up, does his share and then some.

    Goodbye, sniper!

  • Vagueness deals pink death.

    Follow the needles.

  • Now I'm not going to call them out, but one team skipped killing the Hunters, and this nearly made me cry not because they went against the spirit of co-op night, but because they missed out. Epic hunter battle was EPIC!

    Death and more death.

We all died over and over, and it was amazing. In their respective games, Hyokin and Postmortem got busy with the shotty. We also tried sticking them again and again.

    Hypnotized.

Bones tried to blow up a car beside one. Nothing seemed able to kill them!

    "Wut?"

Korny showed us that when it was time to dance, he could do it old school.

    AR style.

When the corpse of the final hunter fell, it had lots of company.

    A beautiful bloody mess.

  • Another thing that cut games short was that people rushed to open Dare's pod. Not our team. What did we do?

We had the time of our lives.

Loftus showed us lots of stuff. The doorway that can lead to Data Hive if you play the game the right way.

    This way, gentlemen.

We found IDs, a page from a mysterious weapon catalog, and a draft notice that Loftus claims has halo.bungie.org on it.

    Intriguing detritus.

THANKS to all contributors. If I didn't seem to mention you, it's probably because you either didn't give me timestamps, or you were on Snipe's team, and he didn't give me a film. He claims that nothing happened, even though he scored 50 gazillion points. ;-) Oh yeah, bluerunner found the fruit and pancakes. I'll let him post the picture. I had a great time. It's a beautiful game, and I felt like I was seeing it with fresh eyes. I may not see quite as keenly as Loftus, but let no one claim that I don't notice shit.

Kermit

P.S. See you for ODST Firefight Wednesday at 9.
