I wanted to post these here, but only once I was finished. GAF got an early taste, one Wu graciously posted on the front page, which definitely exists and is not just a figment of my imagination. Anyways, let's just let the pictures do the talking. Now for some background. First off, ODST is such a beautiful game, whoever designed those skyboxes deserves a medal. I broke out of the maps with my player character still inside the barriers so I could watch the action unfold from outside. It wasn't very easy or practical, but I'm glad I did it this way. I saw some awesome things from angles you're never supposed to see them. A CCS-class battlecruiser passed straight over my head, its engines roaring in the morning light. I flew in the midst of a swarm of Banshees, gracefully soaring through the sky. I heard the low hum of the Assault Carrier's engines as it appeared and emerged from the clouds. Some truly awe-inspiring things, and I'm glad to have experienced them. This is why the Halo series is one of my favorites. Some of these pics, sadly, didn't turn out the way I'd hoped. In the case of "Dig Site", this had more to do with the source material than with the screenshots: the dig site you see in "Kikowani Station" just looks a lot better from afar than it does from up close. :lol Others, like "Mombasa at Death" and "Transgalactic Vulture" were great in theory, but ended up a little less than ideal. Including ships in panorama shots is always difficult, and these two showcase that very well. They still turned out well enough to be posted, though. "We are Legion", on the other hand, turned out better than I'd hoped. The only downer, of course, being the center Banshee only partially appearing on my screenshots for some reason. The thought of photoshopping it in occured to me, but too late for me to go back and effectively try and take a screenshot from the same angle. "Mombasa At Dawn" is an example of how Halo 3/ODST's limited screenshot capacity can come and bite you in the ass. I wanted to take another row of screenshots for the bottom, but unfortunately ran out of space. The resulting panorama doesn't look too shabby, but it could've looked better than it does. Then there's those few panoramas that turn out exactly the way you want them to, or sometimes even better than that. "Lethal Serenity", "Beyond the Sea", "Mombasa at Dusk", "Cloaked in Cloud and Shadow", "And So Mombasa Burned", heck, even "City of the Dead", they all amazed even me when they emerged from the panoramic womb. They're testament to Bungie's amazing artists and their creations. Because ultimately, I'm just the guy who takes pictures and puts them on the internet. Bungie's artists are the true masters here.
