I agree with your opinion on the Combat. The gunplay in Halo 2 definitely feels a bit weak. Many of the weapons, especially the SMG, are severely underpowered. Also, the tinny and dull weapon sounds definitely contribute to the to the poor feel of the guns.

That being said, there are many excellent encounters in Halo 2 and the vehicle sections are arguably some of the best in the series. It is a very replayable game.
