My plans to email everyone regarding their launch party status seem like wishful thinking at this point. I'm trying to get it done, but going through a web-based email client isn't helping, and for every "Sorry, but we're packed" email I send I seem to get six "BUT I RELY WAN 2 COME CAN U MAK AN AKSEPSHUN 4 ME AN MY 7 FREINDS" replies which only slow me down. I wish we didn't have to turn anyone away, but physical laws don't bend too far. The rooms will only hold a certain number of people. And there are things like fire codes, and the happiness of people staying at the hotel, to consider. A party too packed to get into is a drag, but a party that gets shut down by the authorities is an even greater drag. It's now apparent that we can't expect all our fan gatherings to be the relatively small and intimate affairs they used to be. Bottom line: If you RSVPed two weeks ago, you are almost definitely in. Mavruss and Matt Harrison, for example, are both in. If you RSVPed two days ago, or two hours ago, I guarantee nothing. If you didn't RSVP, stay home. The Monaco is a small hotel with a small lobby on a busy downtown Chicago street; there's not a lot of room for people to hang around. -Matt | |
