Re: Keyes Wasn't a GM Form

: This would make sense too, because it's clear only one Gravemind is required
: (from the H3 Terminals) Gravemind was clearly around during H1.

However, a question that a lot of people have discussed is whether or not he was in contact with the Alpha Halo Flood during CE. I personally think that initially he was not, as the flood seemed disorganized and acting only in an instinctive desire to infect. However, later, when they started attacks on ships to get of 04, I think that was when GM stepped in and started running the show. 343GS said that "The Flood are already hard at work repairing your vessel. Its parasitic nature belies the Flood's intelligence." I suspect that that "true intelligence" is GM.

However, it is possible that the flood needs to reach a certain level of biomass (which may or may not be dependent on distance from GM) to contact GM. This would mean that the instinctive nature of the flood before contact, infecting everything it can, serves a dual purpose. First, to simply gain strength and the ability to expand, and second, to build up to the point where it can start being organized by GM.

Another idea, though, is that the Keyes form is, as well as a specialist to pilot the ship, a "communications beacon," through which the flood and GM converse. Thinking in retrospect, even if it was only a pilot, MC probably should've destroyed it...
