In Response To: A teenier, littler tidbit (Jordan117) It is no where near uncommon for an artist to use references. Not only that, but for internal use, where you have to churn out image after image, this drawing over a photo doesn't seem so villainous. Of course, as the photographer, having your content sold in a book is another story, but I'm sure the proper legal avenues were explored. As a photomanipulator myself, 'drawing things on top of another' is no simple task. All you need to do is make sure that the content you start with is deemed Free-use. Going from this to this is no simple task. In fact, I'd say it's harder than snapping a photo, but I'm not a photographer. And that one involves only one chop of one photo... you wouldn't know how many photos I went through for this or this. If no one used other sources for derivative work, the world would be a boring place.
