I am willing to bet what little respect I have that this is a fake, for many reasons, i.e.:
-3of9's las two reasons, the original Cortana is no longer with Bungie, and Cortana wouldn't use an anonyomous emailer (she didn't before, even when we didn't know who she was)
-Her phrases are too disjointed and off-topic, not like the original letters, where even though it appeared cryptic, if you look closely, most of her thoughts were tied neatly together
-I count nearly 12, maybe 12 and a half (if you count "my years are short" and "so little time" as one and a half) ideas and trains of thought, which seem to be an attempt to be mysterious and allude to things which can be found to be pop-culture or mythological references. This is just piled on too thick, like somebody was trying too hard to be mysterious and Cortana-like
-And finally, as has been said by many before, why would Bungie bother? The game is out, people know who Cortana is, and there are print and TV advertising campaigns going on. I'm sorry, but I have to give the Bungie crew more credit than thinking one cryptic letter, sent to a fan site, about an obscure series of games, that were most prevalent on the Mac about 5 years ago, is going to do better than a 30 second action spot during "The Simpsons". As a marketer, I know that the original Cortana letters were good for getting people interested, but continuing the canpaign in this manner would be pointless. Everyone who is going to buy the game or not has their minds made up, or if they don't, they wouldn't care about a mysterious letter that could just be a hoax.
