: I don't know, I think that the merger did take place. If you look at the last
: line "To you, we are deeply grateful, and release what little hold we
: might, as Durandal, have had on your soul.
: Go." I think the phrase "As Durandal" clenches it. Who ever is
: talking to us is acknowledging that it once was, or a part of it was
: Durandal.

I agree. I think this is still at the end of the YTYBT universe. The Pfhor fleet has arrived, Durandal was killed and resurrected, Thoth was uncovered, the S'pht'Kr have been recalled, and the trih xeem has been deployed... it's M2 all over again.

Except in this universe, Durandal and Thoth have merged into one stable, whole entity, which I believe to be a Jjaro ("two forces in balance; ancient, endless balance;" as Yrro put it), and the player has come into his own right as Destiny itself.

In this universe, just enough is different that we CAN trap the W'rkncacnter. As Durandal said in Ne Cede Malis, if only he had more time to explore and find discover... apparently Thoth was never uncovered in that timeline. Now Durandal IS Thoth, or rather they are one, so he knows the answer lies in the Yrro station, and that only you (as usual) can save the day.

The W'rkncacnter is contained, the universe is saved, we live happily ever after.

One hypothesis that I have never quite adequately proved to myself, is that there aren't multiple timelines at all. That all of the different Yous are running around in the same universe... or at the very least that they intersect at some points.

A couple of things make me suspect this: at the start of M2, the Minor River is flooding. In Thing What Kicks, which ends with you about to go off to Waterloo Waterpark, you CAUSE the flooding of the Minor River.

Then again, in M2 it's never adequately explained how Durandal escaped Tycho's trap and his supposed death... in Infinity, he only survives because WE take his "primal pattern" away from the scene of the crime.

But it doesn't quite all mesh... there ARE differences in the timelines. So I suppose that the events we do in one timeline might have been done by other forces in the M2 timeline... a battle between Bobs and Pfhor flooded the river, a Bob was beamed in to grab Durandal's pattern right as the Pfhor snatched you, etc... it's something to think about.
