What!? You could look up and down in Doom! That's news to me, and I played through the demo at least 50 times or so. Don't worry, I played through the Marathon demos alot more :)
: I agree with you. It's not so horrible- it's just not to my tastes. I've
: always found Doom incredibly bland. Plus, Doom's control layout was
: really awful. The whole control-for-fire-and-space-for-action thing was
: weird, but I could adjust to it eventually; the thing that really got me
: was this: the Look Up/Down keys are set by default to those to the right
: of the motion keys. I don't know about you guys, but if I my ring finger
: doesn't have anywhere near the amount of dexterity required to pull that
: off without auto-aim. Marathon's looking controls are better, and that's
: why it doesn't need auto-aim. And as for the gameplay, just read Elliott's
: post .
: Oh, and Vaxuum Bob mentioned the use of term "Doom-like." I
: really, really, REALLY hate it when people use that expression. There's a
: name for the genre: first-person shooter. Just because a game is an FPS
: does NOT mean it is a Doom clone. Calling Marathon a Doom clone is like
: calling... (tries to think of suitable analogy) Blade Runner an
: Alphaville clone. They're both sci-fi movies, but beyond that, well yeah.
: By the way, I don't mean to compare the games to the movies, beyond the
: fact that they're just different.
