Rubicon Volunteers - Mendacium Ex Machina

Oops - Almost missed this one. The chapter Mendacium Ex Machina begins with the level Bump and Grind.

Mendacium Ex Machina. What does it mean? A good translator gives us the following:

mendacium — lie, lying, falsehood, untruth; deceitful; counterfeit, fraud;

ex — out of, from; by reason of; according to; because of, as a result of

machina — machine; siege engine; scheme;

I do not know if there is some historical meaning of this phrase or if it is from a story. In the context of Rubicon, one could assume that it means something such as “deceit due to a machine”. I believe this is referring directly to Durandal’s plan to deceive Tycho, and possibly to Tycho’s counter-plan to deceive Durandal. In any case, we have an image of the marine standing with some sort of a mechanical device, perhaps a weapon. Perhaps this, too, is a metaphor for the virus the marine is going to use to destroy Tycho.
