In Response To: Re: Infinity Timelines Chart (CharlesS)

: I disagree that Durandal's core was pulled by the Pfhor in Hang Brain before
: we were able to destroy it. The Marine destroyed the core, which is why
: Durandal had to transfer his pattern onto the uplink chip. We and the
: Pfhor can't both have Durandal's pattern at the same time.

Why not? It happens in the M2 timeline too. "Pulling his core" doesn't mean physically removing the circuitry and toting it away...Tycho tells us that Durandal's data is simply downloaded into a new physical storage unit. So in both Begging for Mercy and Hang Brain, you smash Durandal's old core, but fail to prevent the Pfhor from downloading a copy of him.

He's just software...there can be any number of copies of his pattern. That's why he had to go to the trouble of deleting his original copy when he downloaded off the Marathon. Likewise, the Pfhor could make multiple (admittedly crappy) copies of Tycho.

The failure of
: that timeline is probably because the player never escape in that
: timeline, and the Pfhor are eventually able to extract the pattern from
: the Marine. In the new timeline, Tycho helps the Marine escape.

But then it would seem (to me, at least) strange that you jump timelines at Hang Brain. You haven't even been captured yet...Tycho hasn't had a chance to help you. For the player, at least, there's no way to know that you aren't on the timeline where he does help you. Why would you need to jump already?
