That solution would require time travel, considering that Halo takes place before Marathon was invaded by the Pfhor... and I HATE stories that involve time travel. :D
Considering that Cortana's namesake was "of the same steel and temper as Joyeuse and Durindana"... I agree, it seems unlikely that Cortana IS Durandal. I am guessing that "Joyeuse" could be a metaphor for her creator (I'm not completely sure, but I remember reading on this forum that she was based on the scientist that created her, right?), and "Durindana"... seems to speculate that she's had some contact with Durandal. Is it possible that part of her was based on Durandal?
I'm not terribly far on Halo... just started "The Silent Cartographer" on normal and completed "The Pilliar of Autumn" on legendary. I've yet to see Cortana go Rampant, if she isn't already.
