I wouldn't worry about it too much. The ad campaign behind Marathon 2 PC was fairly weak, and few magazines even bothered to review it. Additionally, by the time M2 made it to PC, it was no longer a top of the line engine.
Therefore, if you didn't own Mac or know someone who played Mac Marathon, it is quite forgivable that you did not know of Bungie. (My best friend had a Mac. I would go over there and play or make maps all the time)
