The Marathon actually wouldn't have a noticeable gravitational field, even on its surface. Even before you hollow it out, Deimos' surface gravity is 2500 times less than Earth's. And of course it gets weaker as you go farther in. I suppose it could be some sort of Star Trek-style artificial gravity, but apparently smaller craft like your shuttle are zero-G. And Durandal tells you that "You may have noticed that the Pfhor ship has a weak artificial gravity field. The resultant gravity is lower than the Marathon's," which seems to imply that the Marathon doesn't have an artificial gravity field. So I think the Marathon's probably just spinning and producing centrifugal pseudogravity. (That would also drop off toward the center of the ship, but oh well. Guess you never actually go there. :-) Hey, just thought of something...in transit, the Marathon's accelerating lengthways, which produces end-to-end pseudogravity. Maybe most of the ship is designed for use during that three-hundred year period, rather than the much shorter period at the end of the trip when the Marathon's in orbit and has radial pseudogravity from its spin. That would mean that a lot of the terrain you were running over was actually turned 90° on its side from when it was intended for human use. Explains, a lot, no? :-) : Isn't it amazing how real the Marathon universe has become to us all? I mean,
