Well...it could be that, for most of its journey, the Marathon wasn't spinning and was therefore at zero-G (why put the whole ship under pseudogravitational stresses when everyone's in stasis?), in which case enormous variations in height wouldn't be an issue. (Or else most of the architecture was built back before they planned to use the Marathon as a colony ship, again when it was at zero-G.) And when all the computers are in full control, pushing switches and such is probably unnecessary
What I want to know is how several square miles of flowing molten metal contribute to the ship's operation... --Silicondream |
