In Response To: Re: Secret Pattern Buffer (Steve Levinson)

Wow - no one else knows about this? Then either I'm very lucky, or I'm wrong. It's been seven years, after all, and memories are tricky things. Yet, the moment I used the buffer in M1A1, I immediately remembered the same trick from the original M1.

: I just revisited M1 level 22 once again to see if I had somehow missed it. I
: tabbed high and low in the same spot as the pattern buffer in M1A1, and
: adjacent to it on the same wall. Nothing - not even a flicker.

That's exactly where it should be.

: The pattern
: buffer in M1A1 is very generous in size - you can tab almost anywhere in
: the general area and get it. Mike, not that I doubt you, but is there
: *any* possibility you might have been using a doctored copy of M1? There
: are a number of cheats out there that let you add a 'save anywhere'
: feature.

I don't have M1 anymore, so I can't go back to check. I had the original version, the one that installed with 4 floppys - don't remember if it was updated or not. Maybe there was a buffer in v1.0 left in for playtesting (accidentally) that was subsequently removed? I never used a 'save-anywhere' cheat, although I did use the early cheat programs that allowed you to augment weapons and ammo.

: The second point, which addresses this thread in general, is that there *are*
: significant differences between M1 and M1A1 and that we need to be
: cognizant of that when making posts here.

Do Raul or any of the mapmakers from M1A1 post here? Their information regarding that map might be interesting. Someone else pointed out the engine limitations in another reply, so now I'm doubting my own memories. Like I said, I may be wrong, and if no one else can find that buffer in M1, then I have to conclude that my brain is dripping out my ears.
