In Response To: Re: Volunteers: Aye Mak Sicur/A1 Limitations (Steve Levinson)

: Don't get me wrong - I am *very* appreciative of everything Loren Petrich and
: the rest of the A1 team have done - but as a consumer, I have a legitimate
: gripe. Yes, the latest build improves compatibility with the Classic
: Environment in OS X, but A1 will be left in the dust if it isn't ported to
: carbon. I guess they can be forgiven in light of the time it's taking
: Adobe et al to bring out carbon versions of their software, and I know
: that I'm very impatient ;-) . I'm just saying that the open source
: community ought to focus on getting builds out the door that at least
: *match* what the infinity engine could do before adding new enhancements.

But it has been ported to Mac OS X, it's just that the latest X build isn't quite in sync with the latest Classic build. And right now basically all they're doing is getting the bugs out of everything. They had a working version to start with--that was finished about a month after the source was originally released. There are stable Classic builds that use OpenGL wonderfully, and there are even some stable builds with the Bridges & Balconies code: it's the most recent stuff, especially, I think, the 3D model stuff, that's mucking it up. It's not just that they're adding lots of new features before it's stable in the first place; it's mainly that the new features take a LOT of debugging.

Sorry about the rant; I just feel the need to defend these guys.
